Solar Eclipse in Sagittarius: Starting from Scratch – December 2021

Solar Eclipse in Sagittarius

Solar Eclipse in Sagittarius

The New Moon in Sagittarius on December 3-4 is a Total Solar Eclipse! This powerful Eclipse falls on the side of the South Node, a karmic release point associated with the past. So get ready to PURGE. Things empty out at the South Node. But for some this emptying out is a source of power. What new form will you take when you give yourself that fresh start? A new year is coming, in more ways than one (I’m looking at you, Jupiter in Pisces)!

With Sagittarius, you have to trust your gut and take a leap of faith knowing that you’ll catch the wind. But this new beginning comes as a result of clearing the way for something. Chances are you’ve already felt it, as we’re nearing the end to this story (this whole lunar cycle being the final chapter). Sometimes we have to get to the bottom before we can find our way back up to the top.

The Sun and Moon are in the middle section of Sagittarius. Zeus, the glowing king of the gods, commands Sagittarius overall. During this lunar cycle, Jupiter splashes into Pisces – a major upgrade for him, as it’s his other abode (cue the Angel choir). We saw a glimpse of this magical energy when Jupiter was in Pisces for a short stint this Summer (exact dates being May 13 – July 28).

Ever the optimist, Zeus is happy to lift us up and to see us through a tough time, even as we nurse our battle wounds. It isn’t easy emptying out before you can fill back up. Shed your skin willingly, though, and you can decide what happens next.

Important Elements of the Solar Eclipse in Sagittarius

The Solar Eclipse in Sagittarius this year has a lot to do with freedom. Sagittarius itself requires loads of freedom! — to act out on impulse, to set off for a bold adventure, to knock down doors, and to mutate with the best of them in the heat of the moment.

The Middle Decan of Sagittarius: 9 of Wands, Lord of Strength

Sensitive Luna and embattled Mars have rulership here. It has to do with the protection and defense of the body and unconscious mind. Resilience is the key word. We’re coming into this last Eclipse in Sagittarius with our battle wounds loosely bandaged, all prickly and unhealed. There can be a raw, exposed feeling to this time as we process, release, and heal.

The 9 of Wands from the RWS Centennial Tarot in a Tin

This is the pluck that comes with being a survivor in some sense. The scrappy warrior in the card is hurt and injured, but he still has his pride. Celebrate your fierceness and your spirit of courage and persistence. You can do this.

Saturn & Chiron Direct: Authenticity & Independence

The Solar Eclipse is in loose aspect to Chiron and Saturn, who are both in signs that value independence and originality. The three-way configuration between Chiron, Saturn, and the Sun was exact on November 30, with Mercury involved as well.

Chiron, who represents our inner wounds, is at 8° 33′ Aries, about to station Direct on December 19. This highlights themes concerning our inner turmoil, grief, or soul wounds – difficulties that we overcome or at least learn to cope with in life. As we mature with these lessons, we gain some wisdom we can share with others. The pain we’ve experienced becomes something we can draw on to help people who are feeling lost. Chiron in Aries is focused on our ability to take direct action, to be independent, and to assert ourselves.

Saturn, who also recently stationed Direct, is at 9° 13′ Aquarius. The influence from Saturn is waning during the New Moon, but don’t be fooled that he’s out of the picture. His power remains in effect this month with him ruling Venus Retrograde. He also perfects the third and final square to Uranus on the 23rd, which is one of the most important transits of the year, especially for the collective.

Mercury Cazimi Flavors the Solar Eclipse in Sagittarius

The Moon is conjunct Mercury, who just had his moment in the Sun on November 28. Check out this post on Instagram for more information about last week’s superior conjunction, AKA Mercury Cazimi:

Virgo Rising Recalls the New Moon in Virgo

The middle decan of Virgo is Rising, with the Ascendant exactly square the New Moon. The card associated with this decan in the Tarot is the 9 of Pentacles. This draws us back to the New Moon in Virgo on September 6.

The Sagittarius Season Lunar Cycle

Here is an overview of the Lunar cycle this month. For more detailed information about transits in December, check out my post on December 2021 Astrology (incoming).

First Quarter Moon in Pisces

The First Quarter Moon check-in point this month will be in Pisces (19° 13′) on December 10th. This is conjunct imaginative Neptune, who squares the Sun the following day.

Starry-eyed Neptune has just stationed Direct at 20° Pisces on December 1st, two days before the Solar Eclipse. This is a turning point in our personal Neptune story – having to do with romance, creativity, divinity, and imagination. What’s your fantasy? What fantasies actually serve you going forward?

Full Moon in Gemini: The 10 of Swords

The Full Moon this month will be in Gemini (27° 28′) on December 18. The main features of this Lunation will be that it’s in relationship to grandiose dreamers, Neptune and Jupiter. There’s some heavenly grace and generosity going on here, but what you once believed is no longer true, and that can be difficult, too. A whole new philosophy is needed to adjust to this new way of walking in the world. And that attitude or worldview adjustment is what we’ll be working on during the waxing and Full Moon.

Last Quarter Moon in Libra

This month’s Last Quarter Moon will be in Venus-ruled Libra (5° 32′) on December 26. The Sun, Moon, and Mercury are under the Bounds of Venus during the Solar Eclipse in Sagittarius. In the end, it’s all about Venus! Venus is in Capricorn conjoining Pluto during both the First Quarter and the Last Quarter Moons, because she’s Stationing Retrograde this month.

The next New Moon will be in Capricorn on January 2, 2022.
