The Chiron Undercurrent: Anchoring in Bodywork

The wounded healer Chiron entered Taurus recently, and we are only beginning to realize the lessons he carries and the structural and foundational body-work and hands-on tactical work that lies ahead. This month Chiron stations Retrograde in Taurus on August 3rd, turning that energy inward for the first time where it has a chance to percolate and deepen its charge.

A number of transits point at this Chiron undercurrent during the course of the month, with inner planets entering new signs and encountering the wounded centaur as they do so:

• Mercury will square Chiron on August 9th directly after entering Leo.
• Mars forms a helpful sextile to Chiron — on the day of the Solar Eclipse in Leo — after he moves into Cancer.
• The Sun and Mercury will both trine Chiron directly after moving into Virgo, ushering in the end of Summer.
• What’s more, the Mercury Cazimi in Virgo — which happens on the day of Lunar Eclipse in Pisces — is in a harmonious trine to Chiron in Taurus.

With Mercury, the Sun, Mars, and both Eclipses pointing back to Chiron Retrograde in Taurus, August becomes a month of deepening into internal processing and anchoring the body through slow, intentional movement. The Hierophant series is the perfect companion for Chiron in Taurus, and is an important feature of this month’s Astral Current ritual bundle.

Venus in Libra as an Ongoing Supportive Element

Venus enters Libra on August 6, where she is strong in her home sign. This provides the relief to get us through the tougher transits of the month, namely the monumental lunations and the big transformative energy that surrounds them.

There is a long void of course period after the very intense Solar Eclipse in Leo, lasting from the 13th-15th when the Moon enters Libra. This traditional Void of Course period acts as a fallow, empty period where not much is happening and absolutely nothing is getting off the ground. We have to give it a few days for the dust to settle. Mercury conjunct Jupiter also on the 15th indicates that this is the final breakthrough moment after that first, scorching hot eclipse.

Venus sextiles Jupiter in the week between eclipses, a very fortunate event, but she also goes on to oppose Saturn Retrograde in Aries, coming up against a wall. Venus also opposes Neptune and then enters the shadow of her upcoming retrograde on the very last day of the month. To maximize the positive and protect against the more shadowy elements of this oncoming slow-down, we turn to the Justice series to enhance the elements of harmony and balance.

The Mercury Cazimi Integration

Mercury clears the shadow of his recent retrograde on August 6, then blasts through Leo from August 9th-25th on his way to meet up with the Sun.

Mercury is going to be crossing the South Node in Leo, which has a powerful clearing effect. Now prepped and ready for his superior conjunction with the Sun, Mercury finds the light in Virgo. This highly insightful moment of Mercury Cazimi is like a “Mercury Full Moon.” Right in his sign of exaltation in Virgo, Mercury is reborn right in the middle of the soulful Eclipse in Pisces.

This Mercury Cazimi not only trines Chiron, supporting our grounding bodywork, but it also squares electric Uranus, causing unexpected breakthroughs at a significant moment of maximum insight and illumination. These insights will be best processed through feelings and not the intellect, although the square to Uranus highlights our desire to intellectualize and catalogue our findings.

A Total Solar Eclipse in Leo (August 12)

Around the time of the first eclipse, there’s a lot of big energy that we’re all going to be navigating. As if a Total Solar Eclipse in Leo wasn’t enough a fire-ball on its own, we have the Sun and Mercury in Leo sitting opposite Pluto. This is echoing the raw, overwhelming intensity of the Full Moon in Aquarius and Jupiter Cazimi that we had on July 29.

The energy is fast and the heat is on — but it isn’t all fire and brimstone. Mercury and Venus are both dancing with the outer planets in the lead up to the Solar Eclipse, giving us some much needed creative inspiration:

The Partial Lunar Eclipse in Pisces (August 27)

The Lunar Eclipse in Pisces, arriving hand-in-hand with that razor-sharp Virgo Mercury Cazimi, is a whole different animal than the first eclipse. This is where the walls dissolve.

The Solar Eclipse demanded an externalized push. The Pisces Lunar Eclipse asks for surrender, deep psychic clearing, and emotional processing.
